David Yurman Townhouse
New York, NY
712 Madison Avenue is a five-story Italianate/neo-Grec style rowhouse, originally designed by Gage Inslee as one of a row of five houses (710-718 Madison). Constructed in 1871, the townhouse is within the Upper East Side Historic District.
As Preservation Consultants to the Design Architects Gabellini Sheppard Associates, Li · Saltzman guided the project team in establishing a preservation program and meeting the requirements of the Landmarks Preservation Commission for the building’s use as David Yurman’s flagship retail store, showroom, and offices. Li · Saltzman Architects provided archival research, reviewed proposed designs in terms of impact on historic fabric and context, developed the scope of restorative façade work, and acted as liaison with the Landmarks Commission to obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness. The flagship store, an elegant and contemporary design within a historic building, contributes to the unique architectural quality of Madison Avenue.
