Judith Saltzman, RA, LEED AP

Principal

Judith Saltzman, a founding principal of Li/Saltzman Architects, has more than 40 years of professional experience as an architect and preservationist.  Ms. Saltzman leads the firm with a commitment to environmentally and socially responsible design, and an understanding of the complexities of preservation and development. Her early career included the Corpus of Mosaics in Tunisia, the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, and the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission. With a cultural and civic focus, Judith’s projects have received numerous awards. Ms. Saltzman is a Registered Architect in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Judith received her architectural degree from Pratt Institute and completed the Master’s Program in Historic Preservation at Columbia University. Ms. Saltzman is the former co-chair of the Preservation Committee of the Municipal Arts Society, and a member of the Architectural League, Association for Preservation Technology, ICOMOS, and DOCOMOMO.

Roz Li, RA, LEED AP

Principal (emerita)

Roz Li has more than 30 years’ experience as an architect. She has an architectural degree from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines, and a Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation from Columbia University. Ms. Li has taught preservation at the Graduate School of Architecture and Planning, Columbia University, and the School of Architecture, University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Ms. Li retired from Li · Saltzman in August 2012. Through Bakás Pilipinas, (www.bakaspilipinas.org), a not-for-profit organization she co-founded, Ms. Li is currently fostering the preservation of historic and cultural resources in the Philippines. Ms. Li organizes preservation training programs, including an international symposium in Manila in 2016 on the “Seismic Retrofit of Unreinforced Masonry Heritage Churches in the Philippines”.

Michael Middleton, RA

Principal

Joining Li/Saltzman Architects in 2016 and Principal since 2025, Mr. Middleton is trained as an architect, preservationist, and historian with a decade of professional experience in the restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings of varying types and scales. Mr. Middleton has distinguished himself for his technical and analytical skills and for his dedication to ensuring the best possible outcome for his projects, many of which have been the recipients of numerous awards. As a principal of the firm, he provides critical guidance as a project manager, performs intensive archival and historical research, ensures thorough documentation of existing conditions, develops appropriate restoration/rehabilitation programs and feasibility studies for historic properties, and oversees the production of design and construction documents. An avid collector of rare architecture books, Mr. Middleton draws on his knowledge of period architectural styles in his research of historic properties.

Meisha Hunter, FAAR, AICP

Senior Historic Preservationist and Planner

Meisha Hunter has over 25 years of professional experience (10 years public/12+ years private sector). At LSA, Meisha provides critical guidance for the firm’s projects involving historic properties, performing archival research, preparing preservation appropriateness arguments, and serving as liaison with preservation commissions and agencies. She has also prepared Historic Structure Reports, National Register nominations, eligibility evaluations and impact assessments, Section 106 and Section 14.09 compliance documentation, stipulations for Memoranda and Programmatic Agreements, and National Environmental Policy Act support. Moreover, as a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Rome Prize in Historic Preservation, Meisha offers an international perspective on heritage stewardship. She continues to write and lecture on the topic of infrastructural heritage stewardship. She is President of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Water and Heritage.

 

Alden Maddry

Preservation Architect

Alden Maddry has more than 30 years of professional experience as an architect and preservationist. His background includes work in architectural offices in Kyoto, Japan, Ahmedabad, India and New York City. Mr. Maddry previously worked for 15 years as the Senior Architect for Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY. where he restored many of the park’s landmarked buildings in addition to designing new buildings for the park. Mr. Maddry holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, College of Environmental Design, a M.A. in Architecture from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and he has studied at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.

Russell Powell

Wood Preservation + Restoration Specialist

Russell Powell has over 30 years of experience being a member of the historic preservation community in the metropolitan area. He is knowledgeable in the history and evolution of wood frame construction, including its related maintenance, repair, and restoration, and has decades of experience working with building owners, architects, historical societies, and government agencies. With a proven record of delivering high-quality condition reports, drawings, and specifications, Russell has contributed to and lead diverse teams in complex and challenging projects. Joining LSA in 2025, Russell brings his historic wood expertise to projects like the restoration of the King Manor Museum and the Old Dutch Parsonage.

Claudia Vesga

Junior Preservation Architect

Claudia Vesga has three years of professional experience in the restoration and conservation of historic and landmark properties. Her background includes non-destructive testing, façade inspection and repair, and research of traditional building techniques in Singapore and New York. Ms. Vesga holds a B. S. in Architecture and an M. S. in Sustainable Building Conservation from Cardiff University (UK), and an M. Arch from Oxford Brookes University (UK). At Li · Saltzman Architects, Claudia’s responsibilities include archival research, documentation of existing conditions, and preparation of design and construction documents.

Rie Shoji

Office Manager

Joining LSA in 2008, Rie works closely with Judith and the rest of the staff to ensure smooth day to day business operations. She is involved in all aspects of administration, finance, and marketing. She holds a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
