Palace Theater

New York, NY

The Palace Theater in Times Square, built in 1912-13, was designed by the firm of Kirchhoff & Rose as a vaudeville house. The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the theater as an interior landmark in 1987. The Palace Theater was lifted approximately 30 feet as part of a development project that involved the creation of a new retail, entertainment, and hotel complex.

LSA provided consulting services to the Nederlander Organization, the theater’s owner, for the protection and rehabilitation of the landmarked theater. LSA’s responsibilities, starting in 2015, included the review of existing conditions documentation, proposed restoration and design documents, filing and construction documents, protection plans and monitoring programs, and construction phase on-site review. LSA, working with the owner’s team of structural, mechanical, fire protection, acoustic, and theater consultants, advised on the preservation, alteration, and expansion of the theater as part of the $2.5 billion development project.
