Greenwich Village Residence

Located in the Greenwich Village Historic District, the project included two nineteenth century three-story buildings with a small yard in between. Over the decades, the buildings had various factory, commercial, and residential uses, resulting in significant alterations to the original designs. The Owner wanted to create a single family residence utilizing both buildings.
As Architects for the project, Li · Saltzman developed design and construction documents to create a unified residence. Working with Jack Ceglic Designer, the project utilizes a contemporary design vocabulary for the new elements in contrast to the historic masonry envelopes. To create a greater sense of openness and light, selective openings were enlarged, floor levels were altered, and a glazed link was added between the front and rear buildings. Significant historic features were restored. The design was unanimously approved by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2009 and construction was completed in 2012.
