Fulton-Nassau Corridor

In the 1860s the crossroads at Fulton and Nassau Streets emerged as one of the city’s most prominent and vibrant commercial centers. Although the area retains many of its 19th and early 20th century buildings, their historic character and architectural integrity have been diminished through inappropriate alterations and signage.
As part of the post-September 11 revitalization strategy for Lower Manhattan, Li/Saltzman Architects served as the Preservation Architect for the assessment of historic resources and the preparation of design guidelines for a sixteen-block area at Fulton and Nassau Streets. Retained by the NYC Economic Development Corporation as part of a consulting team, Li/Saltzman Architects undertook an existing condition survey, provided archival research, prepared design guidelines, and provided recommendations for incentive grant programs for the renovation and restoration of the storefronts and facades within the project area. The first phase of implementation of the guidelines is in progress.
