Cipriani - 25 Broadway
New York, NY
The Cunard Building, located at 25 Broadway, is a neo-Renaissance style building designed by Benjamin Wistar Morris with Carrère and Hastings as consulting architects. Constructed in 1920-1921, the building is both an individually designated exterior and interior New York City landmark. The monumental interior, comprised of a highly ornamented Entrance Lobby, Passageway, and Great Hall, was long vacant when Cipriani sought to adaptively use the landmark interior as an event space.
As Preservation Consultants, Li · Saltzman Architects guided the project team in establishing a preservation program and in meeting the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s requirements. The phased project scope included signage, security, life safety, mechanical and lighting upgrades, and the insertion of audiovisual systems. LSA’s role included archival research, design review, and presentations to and liaison with advocacy groups and the LPC. Cipriani in the Great Hall was opened in the Fall of 2014.
