959 Sterling Place
Brooklyn, NY
The (former) Brooklyn Methodist Episcopal Church Home for the Aged and the Infirm located at 920 Park Place within the Crown Heights North Historic District Extension II was constructed in 1889 with an addition in 1911-1913. The brick and brownstone, Romanesque Revival and Gothic Revival institutional building is currently utilized by the Hebron Seventh-Day Adventist Elementary School. 959 Sterling Place was an adjacent development site.
Li/Saltzman Architects served as Historic Preservation Consultant to Morris Adjmi Architects for the design of a new mixed-use building to be constructed on the undeveloped lot. Work included assisting the project team in performing archival research, neighborhood analysis and design review, and assisting in presentations to and meeting requirements of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. The Landmarks Preservation Commissioners voted to approve the project in 2021. The project was completed in 2024.
